Your institution's rules come first
Policies on AI use differ between institutions, departments and even individual modules, and they change. Read your own regulations and handbook. If you are unsure whether a specific use is permitted, ask your supervisor in writing before you do it. Nothing on this site overrides your institution's requirements.
Why we never generate references
Language models fabricate plausible-looking citations. A fabricated reference is trivially checkable and is treated extremely seriously. SuperDiss will help you build search strategies and point you toward databases and Google Scholar, but every source in your dissertation must be one you have located and read.
Universities run AI detection — and so should you
Most institutions now screen submissions. The deeper problem is not detection though: it is the viva. If you cannot explain why every claim in a paragraph is there, that paragraph is a liability regardless of how it was produced.

- Can I use AI to help write my dissertation?
- Most UK universities allow AI for planning, explaining concepts, feedback and proofreading support, but prohibit submitting AI-generated text as your own work. Always check your institution's policy and declare AI use where required.
- Do universities check dissertations for AI?
- Yes — most institutions now run submissions through AI-detection tools alongside similarity checking. The bigger risk is the viva: if you cannot explain why a claim is in your dissertation, it becomes a liability however it was produced.
- Does SuperDiss write any part of my dissertation?
