What the Originality Check reviews

Six categories, each one explained in plain English. The report highlights the exact passages involved and tells you how to check them yourself — it never rewrites your work or makes a pass/fail judgement.

Citations

Claims, statistics and paraphrased ideas that need an in-text citation but do not have one.

How you review it: For each highlighted claim, ask: how do I know this? Add the source you actually read, or soften the claim.

Reference list

Citations with no matching reference-list entry, references never cited, and formatting inconsistencies.

How you review it: Check every highlighted citation against your reference list — and every reference against your text.

Source use

Passages that may track one source too closely, even with a citation — a common similarity-report trigger.

How you review it: Close the source, explain the idea aloud in your own words, then rewrite from your notes — and keep the citation.

Academic voice

Informal phrasing, overclaims and vague wording that weaken academic tone.

How you review it: Read the sentence aloud. Replace absolutes with hedged, evidenced claims you can stand behind.

Possible AI-writing risk

Generic, formulaic patterns that AI-writing indicators sometimes flag. These indicators can be wrong — this is a prompt to review, never proof.

How you review it: Make the passage specific to your research: your data, your participants, your reading. Keep evidence of your drafting history.

Viva defendability

Claims you may struggle to explain or justify if an examiner asks “why is this here?”.

How you review it: For each highlighted claim, write one sentence on why it is there and what evidence supports it. If you cannot, revise it.

How to read your results

A flag is a prompt to review, not a verdict

Every highlight explains why the passage needs attention and how to review it yourself. Similarity does not automatically mean plagiarism — quoted and correctly cited material can look similar too.

AI-writing indicators can be wrong

Formulaic phrasing is sometimes flagged whether a person or a model wrote it. Use these flags to make your writing more specific to your research — never treat them as proof of anything.

Your work is never rewritten

SuperDiss will not rewrite flagged passages or help you evade detection. The report tells you what to review; the words you submit stay yours.

How your work is protected

Uploaded documents live in private account storage, encrypted at rest, visible only to you.
Extracted text is processed by our AI provider solely to produce your report.
Your work is never used to train AI models and never added to any comparison database.
Documents are kept as your authorship evidence until you delete them — delete any version yourself, or export and erase everything from the Data & Privacy page.

How it fits your university's process

Most UK universities run dissertations through similarity checking such as Turnitin, and many now consider AI-writing indicators too. The SuperDiss Originality Check helps you walk into that process prepared: you see the kinds of passages a marker might question — missing citations, reference-list mismatches, paraphrasing that sits too close to a source — while there is still time to review them properly.

What students ask before trusting a checker with their draft.

Is SuperDiss Originality Check an official Turnitin report?

No. SuperDiss is independent of Turnitin, does not use Turnitin technology and cannot produce an official Turnitin Similarity Report or score. It is a formative review that helps you prepare for your university's own checking process.

Does a similarity flag mean I have plagiarised?

No. Similarity does not automatically mean plagiarism — correctly quoted and cited material can look similar, and only your institution can make any judgement about misconduct. SuperDiss highlights passages to review and explains how; it never makes a pass/fail judgement.

Can the checker tell whether I used AI?

No tool can prove that. SuperDiss flags writing patterns that AI-detection tools sometimes react to, but those indicators are unreliable and can be wrong in both directions. Treat them as a prompt to make the writing demonstrably yours — never as evidence.

What happens to my draft when I upload it?

Your document is stored in private account storage, encrypted at rest, and only you can see it. The text is processed by our AI provider solely to produce your report. It is never used to train AI models and never added to any comparison database. You can delete your documents at any time.

Is the anonymous preview stored?

No. The up-to-500-word preview is processed once to produce your result and is not saved. To run a full check — where your work is stored privately so you can return to it — you create a free account.

Will SuperDiss rewrite the flagged passages for me?

No. SuperDiss explains why a passage needs attention and how to review it yourself. It will not rewrite your text or help you evade AI detection — the work you submit must be yours.
